About Claire Hincks

A return to education in 2009 to complete an MA in Contemporary Craft (specialising in ceramics) has given Claire the opportunity to re-evaluate her ceramic practice. Claire has changed both material and process. Current work departs from the previously coiled pieces to thrown porcelain that is characterised by reductive surface treatments and a contrast of an unglazed exterior with a glazed interior making reference to the relationship between the inside and the outside.

Claire seeks to make work that is imbued with qualities of stillness and contemplation, giving expression to the observed, internalised experiences that link body, breath and mind. Claire's most recent body of work explores relationships; body and mind, material and process, inside and outside, embracing and expressing her interest and experience as both a ceramicist and a yoga practitioner.

Claire lives in Dorset and designs and makes from her studio at Artsway, a contemporary art space in the New Forest on the Dorset and Hampshire border.

Claire has exhibited both locally and regionally in a number of diverse settings around the South of England, taken part in Dorset Art week over a number of years and is a member of the Society of Designer Craftsman( Licentiate of Merit).
